We all have days when we just don't want to get out of bed. Perhaps we didn't get enough sleep, or we went to bed with all of the previous day's issues weighing on our minds. Maybe you have recently been through a difficult experience or perhaps you have no idea why you've got the blues, but you deserve to feel great. Here are 10 ways to beat the blues.

10 ways to beat the blues and feel happy

These tips, though simple, are based on Universal principles of consciousness. They will work. Be warned, though, some people are going to think you're nuts!

10. Get right before you get up. Don't even get out of bed until you check your mood and make sure you're feeling okay. If you're upset or cranky, the best time to do something about it is as soon as you wake up, before you start attracting circumstances to reinforce your mood. Quickly scan your mind each morning and take stock of your feelings and thoughts. If you need to uplift your thoughts and feelings, try listening to a few upbeat songs, check out an excerpt from your favorite motivational speaker online, or give yourself a few minutes to meditate. Don't wait until you're running late and stuck in Monday morning traffic to realize you're a raging bull.

9. Sleep it off. You might naturally feel inclined to stay in bed or get back under the covers when you're really feeling blue. This can be a great idea, in moderation, of course. Sleeping helps you to readjust your attitude and slip out of the state of consciousness in which the unwanted emotions and thoughts exist. Obviously, if you jump back into the same thoughts when you wake up and dwell on them, this won't help much.

8. Sing out loud. So maybe you can't go back to bed and you have to forge ahead with your day. Pick a goofy, funny song or something that brings back good memories for you and sing as loud as you can. This is even better if you do it outside. Yes, people will be staring and laughing at you-- that's the point. When you're deliberately making a clown of yourself, you can't take yourself too seriously. This one is for the brave, but it really works!

7. Write down 5 things you appreciate about yourself. Appreciation is an emotion that resonates with very high vibrations. True appreciation is even more powerful than gratitude, because it implies enjoyment and increase as well as thankfulness. And who deserves appreciation more than you? Give yourself some recognition by thinking of and writing five genuinely wonderful things that you like about yourself. Then read the list out loud, more than once if necessary. See what happens.

6. Wear a piece of your clothing inside out. Again, this one is only for the bold! Do you know how much humorous attention you will get with a piece of clothing being inside out? Don't try this if you're making a critical presentation for your firm's top client, but if you can afford to have some fun, do it. The point is to depart from your routine and engage others in an unexpected and zany way. If you're feeling blue because you're lonely, you will definitely get some attention and maybe even a few funny conversations this way. The energy of laughter and cheerfulness is an antidote to sadness. And, once you're feeling better you can just flip your clothes to the right side.

5. Visit a playground. If you're a parent, taking your kids to the playground is a great way to reconnect with your lighthearted side. If you don't have children of your own, offer to go with a friend or relative's children. Run around and play with the little ones, push them on the swings and help them on the playground toys. If it's summertime, run through the sprinklers. Children usually don't stay blue for long; they're too busy having fun. Adults can learn a lot from kids. The sound of children's laughter, the fresh air and sunshine, and the exhilaration of goofing around on the playground will go a long way towards uplifting your mood.
